RV Countertop Repair, Replacement & Upgrades
Tired, swollen, or cracked RV countertops make cooking and cleanup harder. Edges chip, seams open near the sink or cooktop, and some slide-out countertops drag because the top is too heavy or out of square.
Traveling RV Technicians (TRVT) provides mobile countertop replacement, repair, refacing, templating, sink/faucet installs, cooktop cutouts, backsplash work, and cabinet reinforcement. We match materials—laminate, solid surface (Corian®/Avonite®/HI-MACS®/Staron®), sealed butcher block/bamboo, and lightweight composite—to your floorplan, weight budget, and travel style, then install with proper supports and clearances so everything rides quiet and looks factory.
Assessment & Common Problems
We start with a full check and written plan. Typical issues include:
Swollen particleboard under old laminate countertops near the sink
Cracked solid-surface seams at the cooktop corner or faucet hole
Sagging peninsulas and countertop extensions that bounce in transit
Slide facings that rub the top when the room moves in
Loose Lagun/pedestal table mounts, wobbly dinette tops
Stained grout or failed silicone at backsplashes
We list cause → fix, then confirm slide clearances and cabinet strength.
Materials: What Works in RVs (Pros & Cons)
Pick the right top for weight, heat, and budget.
High-pressure laminate (Wilsonart®, Formica®): light, affordable, huge color range; great for galleys and bath vanities. Modern textures look like stone without the weight.
Solid surface (Corian®, Avonite®, LG HI-MACS®, Staron®): repairable, seamless sinks, thermoformable edges; heavier than laminate but lighter than stone.
Butcher block / bamboo: warm and repairable; needs finish care and heat discipline; we seal all faces and edges.
Lightweight composite / honeycomb panels: stone look with foam/aluminum cores and thin skins; excellent for large tops when slides are involved.
Quartz/granite: beautiful but heavy; only in short spans with cabinet reinforcement and verified slide/axle weight margins.
We bring samples and weigh options against your cargo and tank loads.
Sinks, Faucets & Accessories
We install and seal:
Undermount or drop-in sinks (stainless, composite, lightweight acrylic) with proper clips/epoxy or solid-surface adhesive
New faucets (DuraFaucet, Moen, Delta, Lippert Flow Max) with braided supplies and shutoffs
Soap dispensers, filtered water taps, and flush cutting-board/sink covers
Bath vessel or low-profile basins where height or door swing is tight
PEX connections get proper supports and drip loops; we pressure test before close-up.
Cooktops, Ovens & Heat Shielding
Cutouts are reinforced and heat-managed:
Gas cooktops: metal edge banding or heat shields near corners; correct clearances to combustibles
Induction cooktops: airflow under the unit, balanced fan intake/exhaust, vibration isolation
Oven installs: anti-tip, spacer kits, and insulation maintained
Backsplash adjacent to heat: aluminum/PVC/FRP panels or tile with high-temp adhesive
This protects seams and finishes from repeated heat cycles.
Seams, Adhesives & Repair Options
We fix—not hide—damage.
Solid surface seams: color-matched two-part acrylic (MMA), clamped and sanded flush; chip fills and crack stops where needed
Laminate: de-lam areas are cleaned, re-bonded with contact cement, and edge-band replaced; chipped edges get color-matched fills or T-molding
Undermount sink re-bond: mechanical clips + adhesive, then silicone seal
Finish to a consistent sheen so repairs disappear in normal light
Support, Subtops & Weight Control
RVs move; tops must be braced:
Subtops in sealed plywood, aluminum angle cleats, and wide bearing washers
Corner blocking and L-brackets into structure (not just thin face frames)
Span limits enforced on peninsulas; hidden steel/aluminum stiffeners where needed
Countertop extensions: flip-up brackets or Lagun arms torqued to spec
We use threadlocker and lock-nuts so hardware stays tight on rough roads.
Backsplash, Edges & Finishing Touches
Options that look great and travel well:
Lightweight backsplashes: PVC or aluminum panels, FRP, or thin tile with flexible grout
Caulk/silicone expansion joints at corners and around sinks/faucets
Edge choices: eased, bevel, radius, or T-molding for laminate; solid-surface built edges for durability
Color-matched screws and clean end caps for a factory finish
Power, Lighting & Outlets at the Counter
We add convenience safely:
GFCI-protected 120-volt outlets and pop-up/flip-up towers where code allows
USB-A / USB-C PD chargers in splash or cabinet ends
Under-cabinet LED task lights on 12-volt DC power with dimmers
Clean routing with grommets, loom, correct wire gauge, and labels at the breaker panel/power distribution centers
Good wiring avoids voltage drop, nuisance trips, and short circuit risks.
